A Beautiful Summation Of Art Beauty And Bollywood At Lakme Fashion Week 2016

If someone asks you the name of an Indian city which never sleeps or the place where many people dream to be, believing that their fortune resides in, I am sure you would impetuously say "Mumbai", right? Quite true as the fast running lifestyle, great infrastructure, better work options and most importantly Bollywood nestled there is more than enough to attract anyone. If said precisely, "Mumbai is infectious. Once you are there you cannot stay away from it."

Recently, the city of dreams Mumbai witnessed a glitzy affair where all big shots of the city and B-Town celebs marked their presence. I am talking about the much-touted fashion event “Lakme Fashion Week”. WOW! What a show the maverick Indian designers portrayed, it really made us awestruck. I believe this is one platform where you can get a perfect amalgamation of beauty, stars and designer apparels all under one roof.

The four-day event slated from August 24-28 might have ended but its essence is still in the air and is making fashion lovers crazy (I am also one of them). Can’t stop reading about it, looking at the pictures of the event and obviously dreaming to owning few of those lovely silhouettes donned by showstoppers from the tinsel town.

A prestigious event for fashion cognoscenti, Lakme Fashion Week is held twice-a-year. The first half it targets the summer trends, while it showcases forthcoming winter trends. LFW is like a festival for Indian designers and also a chance to flaunt their expertise before everyone, especially their contemporaries ;). Each day at Lakme Fashion Week witnesses something surprising. The out of the box ideas and attractive presentation of the designs leave all mesmerized!

Like always, this year also LFW left indelible marks on the minds of fashion lovers with its beautiful silhouettes, which made me wonder how these designers can think of such creative and fancy designs so frequently. The Lakme Fashion Week's recent event was themed as “Winter/Festive Collection”.

Keeping up with its theme, the designers at Lakme Fashion Couture kept their designs a perfect mix of fine quality fabric and gaudy colors. However, few designers also used color Black to portray their winter couture but do made sure to keep some shimmer and shine to it so as to make it eligible for festive occasions.

Leading Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Shantanu-Nikhil and Ritu Kumar were unbeatable again. All their designs were innovative, fresh and captivating. Besides, these fashion big shots were some other designers like Chirag Nainani, Payal Khandwala, Suhani Petite, Gaurang and others whose designs added more colors to the glamorous event.

The word glamorous reminded me of all those gorgeous B-Town guests who watched the show and also walked the ramp for their favorite designers. Stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sharddha Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Ritiesh Deshmukh set the stage ablaze with their charisma, attitude and of course the eye-catching apparels.

Though all the silhouettes were amazing but it wouldn’t be possible to give you a gist of all the designs showcased. But what say about checking out the highlights of event? Not a bad deal, right? So get ready to experience the gala event full of fashion and life.

Like I mentioned above that designs by Manish Malhotra, Shantanu-Nikhil and Sabyasachi stole the show. So why not discuss the three fashion biggies? Starting up with Bollywood’s most prominent fashion designer Manish Malhotra, who never misses a chance in wooing fashion diktats.

Manish opened the show with bridal collection having a dash of modern silhouettes. He chose Bollywood’s gen-x star Sharddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput to walk for him. While Sushant looked the dapper in Jodhpuri and Bandgala suit, Shradha looked mesmerizing in deep green lehenga paired with an embroidered crop blouse.

Manish’s collection highlighted Indian craftsmanship gelled with modern designs, perfectly suitable for today’s fashionista brides. The designs also showcased Manish Malhotra’s signature resham thread work and clustered sequins.

Another highlight of the event was the star presence at the evening. As Manish is everyone’s favorite in Bollywood all the gorgeous faces of B’Town such as Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Diya Mirza, Sophie Choudry, Sushmita Sen and more were present there.

Coming next is the dynamic designer duo Nikhil-Shantanu, who chose to showcase a separate line of menswear and women’s wear captivated the hearts with their hypnotic and stimulating designs. While their women’s collection was themed “Matador’s Mistress” and had a perfect blend of glamor, and elegance, the men’s collection coined as “The Mutiny 1919” reinvented the masculine styling.

B’Town beauty Malaika Arora and hunk Riteish Deshmukh graced the ramp for the duo. Malaika looked stunning in a black mermaid gown. Her poise and Shantanu-Nikhil’s creation made onlookers speechless. Like I told you that their men’s collection was also high-octane and it proved when Riteish walked in wearing a black textured jacket, flare kurta and churidar. The beard and turban were the highlights of Riteish’s look.

Nikhil and Shantanu’s collection saw colors like flame red, burnt blue, emerald green and dark plum which looked more beautiful when complemented with golden embroidery. The material used such as silk and velvet made the collection looked more regal.

Last but the best I must accept is Sabyasachi’s Couture. Yeah, it was truly a delight viewing his traditional designs portrayed marvelously. The illuminate collection by Sabyasachi was jaw-dropping as from the designs to the backdrop all were magical and were capable enough to take us back in the time of 1920-70’s. The glitzy collection saw use of deep jewel tones like smoky pinks, deep greys, metallic bronzes with a lot of vintage floral prints

The heavily embroidered anarkalis, suits, cocktail dresses and lehengas recalled us of the Mughal era. The color palette had all the usuals - reds, golds, blues, greens and blacks.

Though the collection was undoubtedly beautiful, but there was something more that left all stunned. Yeah, when actress Kareena Kapoor Khan walked the ramp in the gorgeous Olive green lehenga, she actually depicted the meaning of Showstopper “as for a moment everyone got lost in her charisma”. The mommy-to-be gracefully walked the ramp wearing a heavily embellished kurti with sheer lehenga with starry and glinting golden polkas along with matching dupatta. As her look was Mughal-inspired the designer complemented her apparels with mang tika.

Coming back to the collection, let me tell you that Sabyasachi made his collection completely royal so he used velvet and net in most of his designs. His designs saw the Zardozi, Parsi work, Baroque crystals, Kashmiri tilla work and faux fur.

His men's collection was equally fantastic and saw some stylish models donning beautifully crafted sherwanis and bandgalas. The safa (turban) and pearl neckpieces made them look very royal and classy.

So this was all from the splendid Lakme Fashion Week held some time back.
