Felt the heat last week? Well it was because the mercury speedily rose in Mumbai when fashion again very beautifully amalgamated with Bollywood at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017.

Yup, last week the glamorous city of the country suddenly became the hottest as maverick fashion designers presented their silhouettes at the glitzy glam event and hogged limelight across the globe.

Held twice a year, each day at Lakme Fashion Week witnesses something surprising. The innovative ideas and attractive presentation of the designs leave all mesmerized and thinking that how can someone bring so much variation in one collection?

While it’s “Winter/Festive Collection” held in 2016, targeted festivity and included dark colors this year the designers have decided to completely change the mood and go sober! Yeah, the 2017 collection of LFW is themed as “Go Minimal”.

Though, nothing can be really minimal when it takes place under LFW but the designs this season portray that fashion diktats wants summer styling to be easy and simple.

The Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 mostly showcased subtle colors like white, off-white, pastels but there were also designers who took care of fashionistas who like colors and bling.

However, this year the LFW missed the Swarovski and  hand work collection by Manish Malhotra, the royalty of Sabyasachi and cool and trendy designs by designer duo Nikhil and Shantanu. But as it is said not to repent on what is not but to praise what we have let’s now talk about the designers and who stoppers who glammed up the already stunning event.

Kunal Rawal

The first day of the glamorous week was completely occupied by the young and talented designer Kunal who continued his use of innovative textures and sleek separates to create modern Indian and Western formalwear for men.

To portray the zeal of the striking collection B’Town’s two popular stars Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor walked the ramp for Kunal. The classy collection by Kunal included jacket kurtas, longline bundis, and high-low kurtas.

Sanjukta Dutta

Designer from Assam, Sanjukta Dutta presented her collection Mekhela Chaddor which as inspired by Goddess Durga and traditional Assamese motifs like Singkhap - a royal motif that portrays two lions facing each other; the Kolki that is like the paisley motif; the Moourah that is the peacock, and the Pokhila that is butterfly.

The vibrant collection became more eye-catching after B-Town diva walked in for it in bright red and black saree.

Ritu Kumar

We must admit that the third day of the gala event was a bit more vibrant as the designers here used darker shades. Like India’s renowned designer Ritu Kumar used appealing shades of blue, red, and a bit bling to bring some life to her collection.

The collection looked livelier when Vaani Kapoor walked the ramp in her Befikre style for Ritu Kumar. Sporting a perfect black floral dress, she looked like a true diva on the runway.

Tarun Tahiliani

The fourth day of the week saw a splendid collection of Tarun Tahiliani named “Chashme Shahi”, which gave us major fashion goals with pastel banarasi lehengas paired with georgette shirts.

The highlight of the event was Tarun’s muse aka showstopper, Supermodel, TV host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi. Lakshmi opened the show in ivory sari while closed it wearing an ethereal pastel peach/pink panelled brocade lehenga and pink silk shirt.

Anita Dongre

Inspired from the Lakme’s liquid gold collection, Anita Dongre’s couture was named ‘Alchemy’ and the entire collection revolved around the liquid gold theme through her designs. From the costumes to the makeup, it was all gold!

For Anita Bollywood’s yummy mummy Kareena Kapoor Khan walked the ramp and increased the mercury in her subtle look complemented with swag! LFW could not end a better way.

Well, this was a quick wrap up of LFW 2017, which hints that this year summer would see a more of white, gold and pastels.
